My Observations
Winston Salem State was simply a televised practice. The important thing to see was whether the Jayhawks would stay focused the whole game, and for the most part they did. Except for a small early run that let WSS back to within two points, Kansas looked energetic, focused, somewhat more crisp, and didn't appear to play down to the level of its competition.
Four Factor Analysis
- SHOOTING - Huge advantage for KU (63% to 42%)
- OFFENSIVE REBOUNDING - As expected, a dominating performance on the glass for Kansas (37% to 18%)
- TURNOVERS - This could have been one area KU could have struggled, but it took great care of the ball. 14% TO rate for KU, vs 32% for WSS.
- FREETHROW RATE - Almost non-existent for WSS (made 1 of 9 FT's) versus a somewhat subpar FT rate of 18.5% (that's calculated by FTM divided by FGA)
Player Performance Analysis
Not worth commenting much here. I will point out that Case and Morningstar's ratings were both pretty good, and they don't usually get much opportunity to play. Nice to see them contribute.
