Offensive and Defensive Performance

Using the outcome of the game and the adjusted offensive and defensive efficiencies for each team, performance indicates (in PTS per 100 Possessions) how each team would have fared against an average team.  That is, KU's offensive performance is how many points per 100 possessions KU would have scored against an average defense.  This provides a standard performance we can compare across teams.

  Kansas Oklahoma
Off Perf 115.7 109.0
Def Perf 85.8 97.1
Overall Perf 15.0 5.9
ANALYSIS: When KU had the ball, KU performed at a superior level, while OU was just slightly better than an average team.  When OU had the ball, both teams performed above average, but KU's defense was a little better than OU's offense when adjusted for strength of opposition.  This resulted in a very strong KU overall performance versus an OU performance that was only a few points better than an average NCAA team.

COMMENTS: The single biggest contributor to victory for KU was its advantage in eFG%.  But OU's superior ability to get to the FT line balanced things outa bit.  KU's ability to force TO's was more than able to negate OU's advantage on the boards.
