My Observations

Sorry, but I'm so far behind having just returned from an all-week business trip, that this will all be very abbreviated.  It was great to see KU dominate this game in pretty much every aspect of the game (except freethrows).  It could be a different story in Manhattan if a few things go the Wildcats' way and they continue to get to the line just as frequently.

Four Factor Analysis

  • eFG% - KU dominated 60-43%.
  • TURNOVERS - 19-14% advantage to KU.
  • OFFENSIVE REBOUNDING - KU dominated 45-19%.
  • FREETHROW RATE - 65-24% to KSU.  What a display.  The only thing that kept this from being a Dartmouth-esque style blowout.
What did the difference in this
statistic mean to each team?

Scoring Margin Advantage Gained

Statistic MeasuredKansasKansas State
eFG%18.3
TO Rate4.6
O-Reb%6.7
FreethrowsFT Pct 2.1
FT Attempts 11.9

CONCLUSION - Other than a bizarre lopsidedness in freethrows to KSU, this was complete domination by Kansas.

Player Performance Analysis

Biggest thing to look at is how KU's ratings distribution of the top four players is so balanced.  Even the next three are pretty close to the top performers.  This was a remarkably balanced team effort.  Meanwhile, KSU had one player show up ... whose previous career high was only 9 points.  What did Maybank smoke before this game?  Let's give some of that to KU players before their first round NCAA tournament game in March.
